JBL Live Beam 4 Review: Premium Sound and a Touchscreen Case That Actually Makes Sense
JBL Live Beam 4 combines punchy, detailed audio with a surprisingly useful touchscreen charging case, adaptive ANC, LDAC, Bluetooth 6.0 and up to 48 hours of battery life. Here is a detailed review covering its sound quality, smart case, noise cancellation, comfort, battery, specifications, price and overall value.
JBL Live Beam 4 Review: The Case Is More Than a Gimmick
Wireless earbuds have become remarkably similar. Most premium models now offer active noise cancellation, transparency modes, companion apps, multipoint connectivity and increasingly long battery life. That makes it difficult for one pair to feel genuinely different.
The JBL Live Beam 4 takes a slightly unusual route. Instead of putting all of the attention on the earbuds themselves, JBL has made the charging case part of the experience. Its Smart Charging Case features a touchscreen that lets users control music, volume, noise cancellation and other settings without reaching for a phone.
That would be little more than a novelty if the earbuds themselves were ordinary. They are not. The Live Beam 4 combines 10mm dynamic drivers, Hi-Res Audio support, LDAC, Bluetooth 6.0, adaptive noise cancellation, six microphones and a claimed 48-hour total battery life. The result is a premium TWS package that feels considerably more ambitious than a simple refresh.
Smart Touchscreen Case Is the Real Conversation Starter
The first thing that separates the Live Beam 4 from most competing earbuds is the charging case.
The Smart Charging Case has its own display and software interface, allowing users to perform several functions directly from the case. Music playback, volume, ANC and Ambient Sound controls can all be accessed without opening the JBL Headphones app. JBL has also added features such as a timer, Find My Buds functionality and customizable backgrounds.
In practical use, this is more useful than it initially sounds. Changing a setting normally means taking out the smartphone, unlocking it and opening an app. With the Live Beam 4, some of those controls are sitting right in the case.
It is not necessarily something every earbud buyer needs, though. The touchscreen also adds bulk. The case weighs around 73 grams on its own and about 82.7 grams with the earbuds, making it noticeably heavier than a conventional charging case.
That is the fundamental trade-off: more functionality in exchange for a larger case. For some people it will be clever; for others, it may remain an interesting feature they rarely use.
Sound Quality Is Still the Main Reason to Buy Them
The clever case gets the attention, but the Live Beam 4 would not be competitive in the premium wireless-earbud market without strong audio performance.
JBL uses 10mm dynamic drivers, with a frequency response rated from 20Hz to 40kHz. The earbuds support SBC and AAC as well as higher-quality codecs including LDAC and LC3.
The overall tuning leans toward JBL's familiar energetic presentation. Bass has plenty of impact, but it does not completely overwhelm vocals or higher frequencies. Independent reviews have praised the combination of punchy low-end response, clear mids and lively treble, making the earbuds suitable for everything from pop and electronic music to podcasts and everyday video consumption.
What makes the experience more interesting is the amount of customization available. JBL's Headphones app includes a 10-band equalizer, while Personi-Fi 3.0 uses an interactive hearing test to create a personalized sound profile.
That means users do not have to accept JBL's default tuning. Someone who prefers stronger bass can push the low frequencies, while listeners who want a more balanced presentation can adjust the profile accordingly.
Adaptive ANC Is Good, But Not Class-Leading
The Live Beam 4 comes with True Adaptive Noise Cancelling 2.0, which continuously adjusts its noise cancellation based on the surrounding environment. JBL also provides adjustable Ambient Sound controls and Smart Talk, which can automatically lower or pause music when the earbuds detect that the wearer is speaking.
The system is particularly useful in everyday indoor environments, offices and commuting situations. However, reviews suggest that the ANC does not quite reach the level of the very best noise-cancelling earbuds, particularly when dealing with unpredictable outdoor noise.
That distinction matters because the Live Beam 4 is priced in a premium segment. Buyers looking exclusively for the strongest possible noise cancellation may find competing models more compelling.
For everyone else, JBL's ANC is more than capable enough to make travel, work and everyday listening more comfortable.
Comfortable Earbuds, Bulky Case
JBL has kept the earbuds themselves relatively lightweight. Each earbud weighs approximately 4.85 grams, while the design uses a stem that makes them easy to handle and adjust. The package includes four sizes of ear tips, helping users find a suitable seal.
Independent testing has generally found the Live Beam 4 comfortable for extended listening sessions, with the in-ear fit providing a secure seal. The earbuds are also IP55 rated for water and dust resistance, making them suitable for workouts and outdoor use, although that should not be confused with complete waterproofing.
The case is the opposite story. It is noticeably bigger and heavier than a conventional TWS case because of the integrated screen and additional hardware.
So the design succeeds in two different ways: the earbuds are easy to live with, while the case sacrifices portability for functionality.
48-Hour Battery Life Gives JBL Another Advantage
Battery life is another strong point.
JBL rates the Live Beam 4 for up to 12 hours of playback from the earbuds with ANC disabled. With ANC enabled, the figure drops to up to 10 hours, while JBL lists up to 48 hours of total playback when the charging case is included and ANC is off.
The case supports both USB-C charging and Qi wireless charging. JBL also says a 10-minute speed charge can provide up to four hours of playback.
Real-world battery life will naturally vary with volume, codec, ANC and other settings. Using LDAC and adaptive features heavily will not necessarily produce the maximum advertised endurance.
Even with those caveats, the battery package is competitive and should be more than sufficient for a full day of regular listening.
Bluetooth 6.0, Multipoint and Hi-Res Audio
Connectivity is another area where JBL has packed in plenty.
The Live Beam 4 supports Bluetooth 6.0, multipoint connectivity and newer Bluetooth features through LE Audio. JBL also highlights Auracast support through the JBL Headphones application, giving the earbuds a pathway to newer broadcast-audio experiences.
Multipoint is particularly useful for people who regularly move between devices. A laptop and smartphone can remain connected, reducing the need to manually disconnect and reconnect the earbuds whenever the user changes devices.
Google Finder support is also built in, allowing users to locate the earbuds through Google's network.
Calls Are Not Quite as Strong as the Music
JBL equips the Live Beam 4 with six microphones and an AI-trained noise-reduction system designed to improve voice clarity during calls. On paper, that is a substantial microphone setup for true wireless earbuds.
In practice, however, call performance appears to be one of the less convincing areas of the package. Reviews have noted that microphone performance can become less impressive in noisy outdoor environments, even though calls are generally usable.
That does not make the Live Beam 4 a poor choice for calls. It simply means buyers who spend most of their day taking calls in busy streets or noisy public spaces may want to pay particular attention to competing models.
JBL Live Beam 4 Price
The JBL Live Beam 4 launched in India at ₹24,999, although its price has since fallen significantly. Gadgets 360 reports that the earbuds were available through JBL's official website for ₹17,999 at the time of its October 2026 review.
International pricing varies. JBL's UK website lists the Live Beam 4 at £149.99, while TechRadar reported an original list price of £179.99 and AU$269.95 depending on market and timing.
Bangladesh pricing can differ considerably depending on official distribution, retailer margins, import costs and warranty coverage. Buyers should therefore check the current local price rather than directly converting an overseas launch price.
JBL Live Beam 4 Review: Is It Worth Buying?
The Live Beam 4 is an interesting example of JBL understanding that the wireless-earbud experience does not have to end at the earbuds.
The touchscreen Smart Charging Case is easily the most distinctive feature. It is slightly unconventional and adds weight, but it is also genuinely functional. Being able to adjust volume, tracks, ANC and other settings directly from the case makes the feature feel more purposeful than a simple technology demo.
Then there is the audio. The 10mm drivers deliver the energetic JBL character many listeners will enjoy, while LDAC, Personi-Fi 3.0 and the 10-band EQ provide enough flexibility for people who want to customize the experience. Battery life is also strong, and the earbuds themselves are comfortable enough for extended sessions.
The compromises are fairly clear. The charging case is bulky, ANC performance is not the absolute best in its class, and call quality can struggle in challenging environments. Those are important considerations at the higher end of the TWS market.
Still, at its current discounted pricing in some markets, the JBL Live Beam 4 becomes considerably easier to recommend. It offers strong sound, a feature-rich app, excellent battery endurance and a charging case that actually changes how the earbuds are controlled.
For listeners who want something more interesting than another pair of conventional premium TWS earbuds, the JBL Live Beam 4 is one of the more distinctive options of 2026.
