Apple's Entry-Level 14-Inch MacBook Pro Gets the M6 Chip for $1,999

Apple's most affordable MacBook Pro has a new chip. The entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 is on sale now from $1,999, bringing the latest Apple silicon to the cheapest Pro laptop while the headline OLED touchscreen models sit above it.

Apple announced the laptop by press release on October 27 and put it on sale on Friday, November 6, alongside the OLED iPad mini, the M6 iMac and the two touchscreen MacBook Pro models. Pre-orders opened on October 28, with the first orders arriving to customers on launch day.

A chip upgrade, little else

Unlike its flashier siblings, the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro got little in the way of updates beyond the M6 chip. It keeps the mini-LED display of the previous model — the new tandem OLED PROLED XDR touchscreen is reserved for the higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch models with M5 Pro and M5 Max, which start at $2,899 and $3,399.

That makes the M6 model the straightforward choice for buyers who want a Pro laptop with the newest chip at the lowest price. It starts at $1,999 in the United States and $2,799 CAD in Canada, and it sits in a lineup where the OLED touchscreen models cost $400 to $900 more.

Part of a five-product launch day

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 was one of five Apple products that went on sale on November 6, in one of the company's most concentrated launch weeks outside the September iPhone cycle. Apple announced the whole lineup across three days in late October, wrapping up with its "Pro and tell" event in Los Angeles on October 28. One week later, on November 13, two more products follow: the HomeView smart home hub and the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, both priced at $299.
