The M6 Mac mini officially launched on September 22, and just days later Amazon is offering discounts across several configurations. The standard model with 16GB of unified memory and 256GB of storage is down to $879.99, compared with its $899 list price. That is only a $20 saving, but it is notable because this is a brand-new Mac that has barely reached customers.

The discounts get slightly more interesting as you move up the range. The 16GB/512GB M6 Mac mini is selling for $1,069.99, a $30 reduction from its $1,099 list price, while the 24GB/512GB configuration is $1,269.99, also $30 below Apple's price. According to current deal tracking, these are among the lowest prices available for the newly launched M6 models.

The M6 Mac mini Is More Than Just a New Chip

The biggest story here isn't actually the discount. It is what Apple has packed inside the tiny desktop. The M6 Mac mini comes with a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, along with a new-generation Neural Engine aimed at AI workloads. Apple says the new M6 can deliver up to 40% faster CPU performance, up to four times the performance for certain AI tasks, twice the graphics performance and twice the storage speed compared with the previous-generation M4 Mac mini in the specified comparison.

The physical design, however, hasn't received the kind of dramatic makeover that some buyers might have expected. The appeal remains the same: a very small desktop that can sit quietly on a desk while delivering performance that, in many situations, would have required a much larger computer only a few years ago. Reviews have highlighted the M6's performance improvements, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and 2.5Gb Ethernet, while noting that the base price has also climbed significantly compared with the previous generation.

Why the Price Matters More This Time

There is a catch to the excitement around the discount: the M6 Mac mini starts from a much higher price than the M4 generation did. The new machine's $899 starting price represents a $300 increase over the previous $599 starting price cited by reviewers. That makes even a $20 or $30 discount more interesting, because buyers are entering the new generation at a considerably higher starting point.

For someone who already owns a monitor, keyboard and mouse, however, the Mac mini remains a particularly interesting proposition. You are essentially buying the computer itself rather than paying for a screen, keyboard and battery as you would with a MacBook. For developers, students, office users and people building a permanent desktop setup, that compact form factor can make a lot of sense.

Amazon Is Discounting More Than One Model

This isn't just a one-model promotion. Amazon's current pricing has included several configurations of the M6 Mac mini, while Apple's more powerful M5 Pro Mac mini has also appeared with a discount. Earlier Amazon deals placed the M5 Pro 24GB/512GB configuration at around $1,669.99, below its $1,699 list price.

The timing is also interesting. Amazon's larger Prime Big Deal Days event is scheduled for October 6–7, meaning the current Mac discounts are appearing before that major shopping event. That doesn't guarantee the M6 Mac mini will receive a bigger discount next month, but it does mean Apple buyers are already seeing launch-day pricing move downward unusually quickly.

For anyone who has been waiting for Apple's new desktop generation, the current Amazon pricing is worth watching. The savings aren't huge, and this isn't a situation where the M6 Mac mini has suddenly become a dramatically cheaper computer. Instead, it is an unusual early discount on hardware that only officially began shipping on September 22.

And that's probably the most interesting part of this story. Apple has built the M6 Mac mini around faster processing, stronger graphics and much greater AI capability, but the company has also raised the entry price considerably.
