Netflix film chief Dan Lin to leave amid executive reshuffle

Netflix said film division head Dan Lin will leave after nearly three years, the second senior executive departure in less than a week. Reuters reported the move amid scrutiny of engagement and growth.

Former Disney executive Peter Rice, replacing content chief Bela Bajaria, will oversee films until a new head is named. Bajaria’s departure was announced after nearly a decade at Netflix.

Netflix is laying off about 6% of its workforce and was due to report third-quarter results after markets closed Tuesday. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos recently said the company was “not growing as fast as I want us to,” while engagement data pointed to users spending more time on creator-led platforms such as YouTube.

Lin’s tenure included “KPop Demon Hunters,” a breakout title that won an Academy Award and supported Netflix’s animation strategy. Before Netflix, he produced “Sherlock Holmes” and the Lego movies and worked as a Warner Bros Pictures executive. No successor was announced in the Reuters report.
