Apple’s M6 MacBook Pro Starts at $1,999 as iMac Moves to New Chip

Apple unveiled a new 14-inch MacBook Pro and a refreshed iMac powered by its M6 chip on October 27, emphasizing faster artificial-intelligence processing on the computers themselves. The U.S. starting prices are $1,999 for the notebook and $1,499 for the desktop.

Orders and availability

Pre-orders begin October 28, with availability scheduled from November 6. Apple says the new MacBook Pro will be offered for pre-order in 35 countries and regions. The announced dollar prices are U.S. starting prices, not local retail prices for other markets.

The iMac retains a 24-inch format and is available in seven colors, according to Apple’s announcement. Both launches extend the company’s M6 hardware lineup, but their advertised performance comparisons use different earlier chips.

What Apple claims about AI performance

Apple says the M6 MacBook Pro offers up to 30% faster graphics and up to 25% faster AI performance than the M5 model, with up to 24 hours of battery life. For the M6 iMac, the company claims up to five times faster on-device AI performance than the M4 version.

Those figures are Apple’s own performance claims rather than independent test results. The notebook’s comparison with M5 and the desktop’s comparison with M4 should not be read as a direct benchmark between the two new computers.
