Einride to Test Nvidia’s Alpamayo Reasoning Model in Autonomous Trucks
Einride will evaluate Nvidia’s Alpamayo model in shadow mode before a planned live-road evaluation in the second half of 2027. The initial model will not control trucks.
Einride to Test Nvidia’s Alpamayo Reasoning Model in Autonomous Trucks
Swedish autonomous-freight company Einride plans to broaden its partnership with Nvidia by evaluating the chipmaker’s Alpamayo reasoning model in its Einride Driver system, adapting advanced driving software to commercial truck routes.
Testing begins without vehicle control
Einride said Alpamayo will first run in “shadow mode.” The model can interpret a driving scene and propose an action, but it does not control the truck. Its output will be compared with Einride’s existing driving planner and human-driver performance while current safety systems retain authority.
The companies describe Alpamayo as a vision-language-action model that can explain the reasoning behind a proposed maneuver. Einride plans to post-train and distill the model using data from its freight operations, then adapt it to the company’s vehicles, routes and operating conditions.
Road evaluation targeted for 2027
Einride said the work is intended to shorten development cycles and lower the cost of extending autonomous capability to new truck types and routes. A live-road evaluation is planned for the second half of 2027. The company aims to be the first trucking operator to deploy Alpamayo on Nvidia’s Hyperion platform.
The project extends a strategic relationship announced in September. Under that broader arrangement, Einride is building a next-generation Einride Driver on Hyperion and using Nvidia’s Halos safety system, Cosmos models and Blackwell computing infrastructure for development and validation.
Whether the new model delivers the expected efficiency gains will depend on testing. The announcement is a development program, not a completed commercial rollout.
