Gboard's Rambler Voice Typing Is About to Learn Your Words — and Your Contacts' Names

Google is working on a vocabulary feature for Gboard's AI-powered voice typing, Rambler, that would let it remember the words you correct and spell your contacts' names correctly.

The feature was found in an Android Authority teardown of Gboard version 18.6.3.10 beta. Rambler is Pixel-exclusive for now. It can leave out pauses and other filler words, but it cannot remember corrected words or slang from your personal vocabulary — that is about to change.

Google is building a vocabulary feature so Rambler can learn from you over time. One setting lets Rambler remember corrected words, and another lets the AI look into your contacts and accurately identify names during voice typing.

Users will also be able to add words manually, see the full list of their vocabulary in Gboard's settings, and export the list to share with others. Leaked settings screenshots show options for "Contact names — Use your contacts to spell names correctly," "Remember corrected words — Learn and use words you've corrected when voice typing with Rambler," a voice correction list, a way to clear all corrected words, and an import dialog for pasting words into the list.

There is no release date yet, but development is progressing. Android Authority spotted the first signs of Rambler getting smarter back in August, and the latest beta has several features making voice typing more personalized and accurate, so it may not be long before they are implemented.

For now, the feature is still in development and has not been released — but when it lands, Rambler will finally start learning how you actually talk.
