Samsung Finally Brings One UI 9 to Its 2024 Flagships

Samsung has started rolling out the stable version of One UI 9, based on Android 17, to some of its most popular 2024 flagship smartphones. The Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 are now joining the company's latest software generation, although the first stage of the rollout is limited to South Korea.

For Galaxy S24 owners, this is an important update because the S24 family was among Samsung's major flagship launches before the company moved on to newer generations. The arrival of stable One UI 9 means users are now moving beyond the One UI 8.5 generation and getting Samsung's latest Android interface, AI features and system-level improvements.

Samsung's rollout is being handled in stages, so seeing the update on one device does not mean that every Galaxy S24, Fold6 or Flip6 around the world will receive it at the same time. Carrier approval, region and device configuration can all affect when the update becomes available.

One UI 9 Is Based on Android 17

The biggest change underneath One UI 9 is Android 17. Samsung's newest interface builds on Google's latest Android platform while adding Samsung's own design, Galaxy AI tools, privacy features and device-management capabilities.

Samsung officially began expanding One UI 9 with the Galaxy S26 family in September. The software later moved to newer flagship models including the Galaxy S25 series and Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7. Now the update is reaching the previous generation, including the S24 family and 2024 foldables.

The timing is significant because One UI 9 first appeared on Samsung's newest foldable generation in July. Bringing it to the S24 and Fold6/Flip6 therefore represents another major step in the company's wider Android 17 rollout.

Galaxy S24 Series Gets the Stable Update

The stable One UI 9 rollout covers the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra. Samsung is initially distributing the update in South Korea, where the company normally begins many of its major Galaxy software releases.

The size of the update depends on the software version already installed. Galaxy S24 users who participated in the One UI 9 beta can expect a package of roughly 500MB, while users upgrading from One UI 8.5 may see a download of approximately 3.8GB.

That difference is normal for a major Android update. Beta users already have much of the underlying software installed, whereas devices coming from the previous stable release need to download considerably more system components.

Fold6 and Flip6 Join the One UI 9 Rollout

Samsung's 2024 foldables are receiving the same software generation. The Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 are now part of the stable One UI 9 rollout.

For users coming from the One UI 9 beta, the update is reported to be around 408MB, while devices upgrading directly from One UI 8.5 require approximately 3.5GB.

For the Fold6 in particular, One UI updates can have an additional impact because Samsung continues to tailor its interface for large and foldable displays. Multitasking, app layouts and information presentation are important parts of the Galaxy Z Fold experience, making software optimization just as important as raw hardware.

New Galaxy AI Features Are Part of the Upgrade

One UI 9 is not simply an Android version change with a new number. Samsung is using the update to expand the role of Galaxy AI across its devices.

Among the features coming to eligible devices are improvements designed to make the phone more aware of what users are doing. Samsung has highlighted features such as Now Brief customization, which gives users more control over the information presented to them, as well as Nudge, which can offer suggestions based on routines and activities.

Another notable feature is My FanCam, which can keep a selected subject framed throughout a video clip. Samsung has also introduced Call Brief, which can provide contextual information for international callers, including local time and country information. Feature availability can vary by device and market.

Samsung Is Also Focusing on Privacy and Device Care

One UI 9 also puts greater emphasis on keeping users informed about their device and personal data.

Samsung says the new software provides more streamlined device-care functions, including diagnostics and service-related tools. The company has also highlighted security and privacy improvements, including regular security checks and AI-powered alerts designed to identify potential privacy risks.

These changes may not be as immediately visible as a redesigned interface or a new camera feature, but they are becoming increasingly important as smartphones hold more personal information and increasingly rely on AI services.

The Global Rollout Will Take Time

The most important point for Galaxy S24, Fold6 and Flip6 owners outside South Korea is that the stable release has started, but the worldwide rollout is not happening simultaneously.

Samsung's own documentation makes clear that One UI update timing can vary according to the device, country and network operator. Samsung's UK information page now lists the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 among devices eligible for One UI 9, while emphasizing that rollout timing varies by region and carrier.

That means users in India, the United States, China and Bangladesh may receive the update at different times. Carrier-specific models can also receive software later than unlocked or Samsung-sold versions.

What Galaxy S24 Owners Should Do

There is no need to manually install unofficial software simply because another region has already received One UI 9. The safest approach is to wait for Samsung's official update notification and check through the phone's software-update settings.

Before installing a major system update, users should make sure the phone has sufficient storage and battery and preferably use a reliable Wi-Fi connection. It is also sensible to maintain a current backup of important data.

Because Samsung can temporarily pause a rollout if a serious problem is discovered, the exact timing can change. Samsung's regional update documentation explicitly notes that schedules and eligible models can be changed if issues are identified during the rollout.

A Major Software Upgrade for Samsung's 2024 Flagships

The arrival of stable One UI 9 gives the Galaxy S24 series and Samsung's 2024 foldables a meaningful software refresh without requiring owners to move to a newer phone. The hardware in these devices remains capable, and Android 17 combined with Samsung's latest interface and Galaxy AI features extends their useful life.

For Samsung, the rollout also shows how the company is gradually moving One UI 9 across its enormous Galaxy ecosystem. The S26 generation received the software first, followed by newer flagship devices, and now the update is reaching the S24 generation and 2024 foldables.

The rollout has only just begun for these models, so the real story over the coming weeks will be how quickly Samsung expands One UI 9 beyond South Korea and whether all advertised features arrive simultaneously across different markets. For Galaxy S24, Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 owners, however, the important news is clear: Android 17 and stable One UI 9 have officially started their journey to these 2024 flagship devices.
