AI-linked stocks rise after Anthropic IPO filing as investors weigh spending risks

AI-linked shares rose on October 26 after Anthropic revealed paperwork for a potential initial public offering, Reuters reported. The gains came alongside continued investor concern about the debt-funded infrastructure spending needed to build and operate advanced AI systems.

Broad gains across the AI supply chain

Nvidia shares added nearly 3%, while Microsoft and Amazon gained nearly 1% each, according to Reuters. CoreWeave rose 5.7% and Nebius Group gained 2.3%, reversing earlier losses. Micron added 3%, while Sandisk, Western Digital and Seagate each gained about 2.5%.

AMD and Broadcom rose 2.5% and 3%, respectively, and Zoom Communications, an early Anthropic investor, gained 1.5%. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index was up more than 3%, Reuters reported. These were the moves reported for Monday's trading and do not establish a lasting market trend or a cause beyond the backdrop described by Reuters.

Why the filing matters

A successful flotation by a pure-play AI company could influence how investors value chipmakers, cloud providers and other infrastructure businesses, analysts told Reuters. Anthropic's corporate relationships add complexity: some large technology companies are investors in both Anthropic and rival OpenAI, while also participating in the broader AI infrastructure market.

The filing could also give investors another public-market route into AI, potentially changing how portfolios allocate capital among established technology companies and newer infrastructure firms. Reuters said the long-term effect of AI IPOs on the sector's trading remains uncertain.

Caution remains part of the trade

Reuters reported that investors are increasingly uneasy about the scale of debt-funded infrastructure spending. Michael Smith, head of the growth-equity team at Allspring Global Investments, said attractive opportunities may lie in smaller and medium-sized companies that can address infrastructure problems efficiently and quickly.

The market response therefore combined enthusiasm for Anthropic's prospective listing with a more selective approach to AI exposure. Anthropic's offering terms and completion were not disclosed in the Reuters report, so Monday's gains should not be treated as a verdict on the eventual IPO.
