Moonshot AI Restores Kimi Subscriber Quotas After K3.1 Pro Problems

Moonshot AI apologised for rate limiting and unusually rapid quota consumption after the launch of Kimi K3.1 Pro. In a post on Kimi’s official account, the Chinese startup said the problem was its responsibility and that it should have been fixed earlier.

The one-time reset

Moonshot said every subscriber on every plan would receive a one-time usage adjustment restoring 25% of the monthly quota. It described that amount as roughly one week of use. Subscribers who had used less than 25% would have their usage reset to zero rather than receive a negative or additional balance.

The company said the usage bar would show the adjustment by the end of the day Pacific time. That is a service promise made in the post; the opened sources do not independently verify whether every account was updated successfully.

Changes to the service

Moonshot also said it had changed plan parameters and would reduce unnecessary subagent calls and output length. Subagent calls are extra model operations delegated inside an AI workflow, while output length refers to the amount of generated text or tokens. Reducing either can make a fixed quota last longer, but the post does not quantify the change or explain how it would affect response quality.

Reuters reported that Moonshot had encountered computing-capacity problems after the earlier K3 launch and that Chinese AI laboratories were facing shortages linked to U.S. chip-export controls. Those broader constraints provide context, but the opened sources do not establish that export controls directly caused this specific quota incident.

What users should take from it

The response combines compensation for affected subscribers with a change to the system’s consumption settings. It does not amount to a guarantee of unlimited capacity or show that K3.1 Pro’s launch issues are permanently resolved. The official post also does not publish revised quotas, a detailed incident report, or uptime data.
