Sony Xperia 1 VII Starts Receiving Android 17 in Europe

Android 17 is reaching Sony’s Xperia 1 VII, with European owners reporting the new software under build number 71.2.A.2.35. GSMArena puts the download at around 1.1GB, following the rollout to the newer Xperia 1 VIII.

The initial availability comes from owner reports, not proof that every regional version has received the update. In the linked Xperia community thread, the original poster identifies their phone as running European firmware.

Desktop mode is a notable addition

Sony’s official Android 17 guide lists the Xperia 1 VII among the models that support Desktop mode with an external display. The feature is designed for running multiple apps on a larger screen, with a keyboard and mouse for tasks such as email and documents.

The guide also describes a revised Quick settings panel with resizable, rearrangeable tiles, plus expanded wallpaper, clock and icon-shape customisation.

Screen recording gains more flexibility

Sony says Android 17 can record an entire screen or a single app, with device audio and microphone audio recorded together. That makes the update relevant beyond its new appearance, particularly for gameplay clips and narrated demonstrations.

Feature availability can vary by device and software version, a limitation Sony explicitly notes in its guide.

Do not assume every Xperia feature applies to the VII

The same Sony page advertises Quick Share interoperability with AirDrop and custom looks in AI Camera Assistant, but labels those features for the Xperia 1 VIII. They should not be presented as confirmed additions to the Xperia 1 VII merely because they appear in a shared Android 17 article.

Regional rollout timing can differ

The European reports do not establish the arrival date for every imported or regional handset in India, the US, China or Bangladesh. Owners should use their device’s normal software-update check and follow the installation instructions shown there.

The build number is a useful identifier for the reported release; it is not a reason to install an unofficial firmware package intended for a different variant.
