Samsung upgrades sleep-apnea screening for Galaxy Watch9, Ultra2 and Ring
Samsung’s upgraded sleep-apnea feature adds three breathing-disruption frequency bands, starting in South Korea in November on Galaxy Watch9, Ultra2 and Ring.

Samsung is upgrading its sleep-apnea feature from a basic signs-detected result to a more detailed estimate of breathing disruptions during sleep. Samsung says the enhanced version received US FDA authorization in July 2026 and South Korean MFDS authorization on October 28, but it has announced only a South Korean rollout so far.
What changes
An AI algorithm analyses the number of breathing disruptions per hour and places the result into three frequency bands: mild, occasional or frequent. The result is delivered through the Samsung Health Monitor app on a paired Galaxy device. Users must record at least five hours of sleep on two occasions within 10 days before a result is generated.
Supported Galaxy devices
In South Korea, the new feature is scheduled to arrive in November first on the Galaxy Watch Ultra2, Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Ring. Samsung says it will later expand through software updates to Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch8 models running Wear OS 7.0 or later. The existing version, which detects signs of moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea without the three-level frequency result, remains available on Galaxy Watch4 and newer models running Wear OS 5.0 or later.
Availability and limits
Samsung says its sleep-apnea feature is available in 84 countries, but that figure should not be taken as a worldwide launch of the upgraded version. Availability depends on local regulatory approval, the model, carrier and paired phone. Samsung’s broader support material requires a compatible Galaxy smartphone and Samsung Health Monitor, with software and regional restrictions.
This is a screening aid for adults who have not already been diagnosed with sleep apnea. It does not diagnose sleep apnea, confirm its absence, monitor treatment or replace a clinician’s evaluation. Samsung says users should treat the result as information to discuss with a qualified healthcare professional, not as a medical conclusion.
