Google will let Android and iPhone apps add Quick Share directly in 2027

Google plans to release Quick Share SDKs for Android and iOS apps in the first half of 2027, allowing developers to offer nearby file transfers inside their own interfaces instead of sending users through the system share sheet.

Google will let Android and iPhone apps add Quick Share directly in 2027

Google plans to make Quick Share available directly inside third-party Android and iOS apps, reducing the need to open the operating system’s share sheet first. The company announced SDKs at Android Dev Summit 2026, with release planned for the first half of 2027, according to separate reports from 9to5Google and Android Authority.

Sharing without leaving the app

Apps that adopt the SDK are expected to open an in-app bottom sheet for choosing nearby devices and previewing files. The planned integration is intended to support peer-to-peer transfers between Android phones and iPhones, including Google’s Tap to Share flow. It does not mean every app will automatically gain the feature: developers will have to add the SDK themselves.

Google’s existing Quick Share materials say the service can work across Android, iPhone, Chromebook and Windows devices. The company has also officially documented Quick Share working with Apple’s AirDrop, initially on the Pixel 10 family. Those pages establish the broader cross-platform direction, but they do not yet provide public SDK documentation or a final availability list for the 2027 integration.

The reports describe end-to-end encryption, local-network transfers, offline operation and support for sending photos and videos without compression. These are announced capabilities, not a guarantee of identical performance on every phone or in every app. Google has not published a final SDK release date, compatibility matrix or adoption list in the sources reviewed.
