Meta weighs at least $20 billion in potential cross-border bond offerings

Meta is considering raising at least $20 billion through a potential cross-border bond offering, Bloomberg News reported, giving the technology company another possible source of funding as it pours money into artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Reuters reported that no final decision had been made and that the size of the transaction could increase if investor demand is strong. The report attributed the information to people familiar with the matter.

Potential dollar and euro tranches

The proposed financing could span both dollar and euro markets. The dollar bonds are expected to carry maturities of five to 30 years, while the euro offering could run from about four years to just over 38 years, according to the Bloomberg report cited by Reuters.

The syndicated Reuters report said Meta had asked Citigroup and Morgan Stanley to hold investor calls. Meta, Citigroup and Morgan Stanley did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment.

Funding pressure grows with AI build-out

The potential bond sale comes as Meta's infrastructure program demands unusually large amounts of capital. In its third-quarter results, Meta said capital expenditures, including principal payments on finance leases, reached $34.91 billion. The company reported negative free cash flow of $2.12 billion for the quarter and forecast 2026 capital expenditures of $135 billion to $145 billion.

Meta's investor-relations release said the company expects to continue investing aggressively in artificial intelligence and other emerging initiatives. That spending backdrop helps explain why debt markets are being considered, but Meta has not publicly confirmed that the reported bond offering will proceed.

The possible debt issue would follow other recent financing activity by the company, including a $25 billion investment-grade bond sale in April, according to the syndicated Reuters report. The report also said Meta had raised $30 billion through a bond offering last year.

Investor demand, market conditions and the company's final financing plans will determine whether the proposed transaction moves forward and how large it becomes.
