Banks and Blackstone arrange $63 billion financing for Broadcom AI equipment tied to Anthropic
Bank of America, Blackstone, Citi and Morgan Stanley will provide $63 billion in financing to buy Broadcom's AI chips and networking equipment for Anthropic, the companies said Monday, according to Reuters. The transaction is one of the largest debt deals linked to the AI buildout, Reuters reported.
Special-purpose vehicle structure
Broadcom's investor-relations announcement said the transaction will be executed through a newly formed special-purpose vehicle. It described the structure as financing to enable AI compute capacity in partnership with Broadcom and warned that deployment timing and capacity are forward-looking matters subject to risks.
The official release does not show that the equipment has already been delivered or that the full capacity is operating. The financing announcement is therefore a commitment and transaction structure, not a report of completed deployment.
Why the structure matters
The arrangement connects debt financing, a chip and networking supplier, and a major AI model developer in one infrastructure transaction. It illustrates how the cost of securing compute can be financed separately from the operating company that will use the capacity.
Broadcom's release listed risks including changes in customer demand, supply-chain dependence, manufacturing capacity, indebtedness and the ability to generate cash flows to service debt. Those cautions mean the announced amount should not be treated as a forecast of revenue or profit for Broadcom or Anthropic.
