Sony Rolls Out Android 17 to the Xperia 10 VII and Xperia 10 VIII

Sony has now released Android 17 for the Xperia 10 VII and Xperia 10 VIII. The two mid-range phones join the Xperia 1 VIII, which received the update in September, and the Xperia 1 VII, which followed in October.

There is little detail in the announcement itself. Sony has not said which regions the update is being seeded to first, and no changelog, build number, or security patch details have been shared for the two phones. The expectation is that the rollout will reach the UK and Europe first, since that is where Android 17 arrived first for the Xperia 1 VIII and Xperia 1 VII — but that is an expectation, not something Sony has confirmed.

What Android 17 changes on Xperia phones

Sony's own Android 17 page describes a handful of changes for Xperia phones in general. The Quick settings panel gets a fresh look, with tiles that can be resized and rearranged, and the lock screen, home screen and icon styles can be customised further through the updated Wallpaper and style options. Screen recording is also made easier, with the option to record the whole screen or a single app, including device and microphone audio.

Sony notes that the features described may vary by device and software version, so not every change will necessarily appear on the Xperia 10 VII and Xperia 10 VIII. Some of the headline additions on its page are reserved for the flagship models: Desktop mode with an external display is listed for the Xperia 1 VIII, 1 VII and 1 VI, AirDrop sharing through Quick Share is listed for the Xperia 1 VIII only, and the upgraded AI Camera Assistant with custom looks is also an Xperia 1 VIII feature.

For owners of the two Xperia 10 phones, the main news is simply that the update has started rolling out. With no confirmed dates or regions, the wait now depends on where you are — and the update should appear when Sony's rollout reaches your region.
