Galaxy Z Fold8 sales rose 20% in South Korea after iPhone Duo launch, report says

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 sales in South Korea rose more than 20% week over week during Oct. 23–29, according to local telecom-industry figures cited by The Korea Herald. The data does not disclose unit volumes or prove that iPhone Duo display complaints caused buyers to switch to Samsung.

Galaxy Z Fold8 sales rose 20% in South Korea after iPhone Duo launch, report says

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 recorded a week-on-week sales increase of more than 20% in South Korea during Oct. 23–29, according to local telecom-industry figures cited by The Korea Herald. The figures show a change in sales, not the number of devices sold.

What the data shows

The reported increase came after Apple’s first foldable iPhone began shipping on Oct. 23. A similar, roughly 10% weekly rise was reported in September after Apple unveiled the device. The comparison is suggestive, but it does not establish that iPhone Duo buyers moved to Samsung. The report says there is no confirmed evidence linking returns or display complaints directly to the Fold8 gain.

Samsung’s phone also had a price and carrier-subsidy advantage in Korea. The Korea Herald reported a 2.28 million-won starting price for the Fold8 versus 3.29 million won for the 256GB iPhone Duo, while major carriers increased eligible Fold8 subsidies by about 100,000 won.

Samsung’s retention push

Samsung’s Korean AI Subscription Club page confirms that eligible Galaxy Z Fold8 buyers can receive guaranteed residual values of 50% after 12 months, 40% after 24 months and 25% after 36 months, subject to the program’s conditions. The Korea Herald also reported that enrollment was extended through Nov. 30, alongside trade-in support of up to 100,000 won and a year-end promotion.
