Apple’s New Watches Just Launched — and Amazon Is Already Cutting the Price
Apple’s latest smartwatches have barely reached customers, but Amazon is already offering discounts on selected Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 models. The early reductions are modest, but getting money off a brand-new Apple product on launch weekend is unusual and could signal the beginning of more aggressive retailer competition.
Apple’s New Watches Are Already Cheaper on Amazon
Apple’s newest smartwatches officially went on sale Friday, September 18, but Amazon has wasted almost no time cutting prices on selected models. The Apple Watch Series 12, which starts at $399, is available for around $10 less on certain configurations, while selected Apple Watch Ultra 4 models are seeing discounts of about $20. That puts the Ultra 4 at roughly $779.99 instead of its $799 starting price.
The discounts are not huge, but the timing is what makes the story interesting. These aren't older Apple Watches being cleared out ahead of a new generation. Series 12 and Ultra 4 are the newest models in Apple's lineup, and they have only just reached stores. Amazon cutting the price almost immediately gives shoppers something they normally don't expect from a freshly launched Apple product: a small discount without having to wait months.
Series 12 Starts at $399, Ultra 4 at $799
Apple introduced both watches on September 9, with availability beginning September 18. The Apple Watch Series 12 starts at $399 in the U.S., while the Apple Watch Ultra 4 starts at $799. Apple says both models feature its new Health Sensing System and S11 chip, with higher-frequency heart-rate and heart-rate-variability measurements and a new readiness score.
The Ultra 4 is the more expensive and rugged option, built around a titanium case and designed for sports and outdoor use. Apple says it can provide up to 45 hours of outdoor-workout tracking and includes an improved on-device GPS system. The Series 12 takes a more mainstream approach, offering the new health features in a thinner and lighter everyday smartwatch.
Amazon’s Early Discounts Are Small — But They Matter
For now, shoppers shouldn't expect massive savings. Amazon's launch-week discounts vary depending on the case, band, size and connectivity configuration. Reports show some Series 12 models discounted by around $9–$10, while several Ultra 4 configurations have dropped by roughly $20. The exact combinations available at the discounted price can change quickly.
That makes the current sale more interesting as a launch-week pricing move than a major clearance event. Amazon doesn't need to cut hundreds of dollars from a product that has just arrived. A small discount can be enough to make its listing look more attractive than Apple's official price, especially for customers who have already decided which model they want.
And there's another reason retailers may be willing to move quickly: Apple Watches are sold through a huge retail ecosystem. Amazon, Best Buy, carriers and other retailers all compete for the same customers. Once one retailer starts adjusting its price, others have an incentive to respond.
The New Apple Watches Are About More Than a New Design
Apple's biggest pitch with this generation isn't simply a cosmetic refresh. Series 12 and Ultra 4 introduce a new health-sensing system designed to collect heart-rate and HRV information at a higher frequency, helping power features such as the new readiness score. Apple is also bringing new intelligence features to the watches through watchOS 27, including Siri AI and upcoming Audio Intelligence capabilities.
That shift is worth watching because Apple is increasingly positioning the Watch as something that can interpret information rather than simply display notifications. The company is moving toward a wearable that can provide more personalized health and fitness information while also using AI-powered features for everyday tasks.
For the Ultra 4, Apple is pushing the same idea toward athletes and outdoor users, combining the new health system with longer battery life, GPS improvements and its rugged titanium design.
Why Would Amazon Discount a Brand-New Apple Product?
There are several possible reasons, and it doesn't necessarily mean the watches are selling poorly. Retailers frequently use small discounts to attract customers, generate launch-week traffic and compete with other sellers. Amazon can also adjust prices dynamically depending on inventory, demand and competition.
The more interesting possibility is that retailers are becoming increasingly aggressive around Apple's launches. Consumers have become accustomed to waiting for deals, trade-in offers and carrier promotions rather than automatically paying Apple's full retail price. Even a $10 or $20 reduction can make a difference when combined with other promotions.
For shoppers, however, the important detail is that not every Series 12 or Ultra 4 is discounted. The deals depend on particular configurations, and Amazon's prices can change quickly. Current reporting shows the Ultra 4 discounts are among the earliest cash discounts seen since the model launched.
A Small Discount Could Become a Bigger Story
Right now, saving $10 on a Series 12 or $20 on an Ultra 4 isn't going to completely change the economics of buying an Apple Watch. But launch-week discounts can be an early sign of how retailers will compete around a new product throughout the holiday shopping season.
If Amazon and other retailers continue cutting prices, buyers may have less reason to pay Apple's full price. On the other hand, if the discounts disappear quickly, these first reductions could end up being nothing more than short-lived launch promotions.
Either way, the timing is unusual enough to be worth watching. Apple's newest watches have barely landed on store shelves, and Amazon is already showing that the official launch price doesn't necessarily have to be the final price customers pay. For anyone who was already planning to buy one, those first few dollars saved may be small — but they could be the beginning of a much more competitive Apple Watch market heading into the holiday season.
