Salesforce targets frontline military logistics with Rune acquisition
Salesforce has agreed to acquire Rune Technologies, a defense software company whose tools help military logistics teams work with limited connectivity. The deal would expand Salesforce’s Missionforce business into tactical-edge operations, with closing expected in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2027.
Salesforce targets frontline military logistics with Rune acquisition
Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Rune Technologies, a defense technology company that develops software for military logistics and sustainment operations. The financial terms were not disclosed.
Software designed for disconnected operations
Rune’s platform is designed for frontline teams that may operate with denied, degraded, intermittent or limited connectivity. According to Salesforce, its tools help users forecast supply needs, optimize resources and make operational decisions, then synchronize information when network access returns.
The company says Rune connects live operational data with enterprise systems that track personnel, equipment and supplies. That is intended to give military logisticians and commanders a more continuous view of readiness across garrison, deployed and communications-constrained environments.
Expansion of Salesforce’s Missionforce business
Salesforce said the acquisition would broaden Missionforce, its government and defense portfolio, with purpose-built “super intelligence” capabilities for logistics at the tactical edge. The company described the deal as its most significant national-security-focused acquisition.
Salesforce said Missionforce’s defense business is growing 80% year over year and that its customers include all six branches of the U.S. military. It also pointed to a 10-year U.S. Army contract with a potential value of $5.6 billion, a ceiling rather than guaranteed revenue.
Closing is expected in fiscal 2027
The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce’s fiscal 2027, subject to customary closing conditions. Salesforce said Rune is already deployed with the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps.
Rune was founded in 2024 by David Tuttle and Peter Goldsborough, who previously held leadership roles at Anduril, according to Salesforce’s announcement. Tuttle said the deal would allow Rune to extend its frontline logistics technology and connect it more closely with enterprise systems.
