Honor Magic9 Pro Max Lands for Review With ARRI Cinema Cameras and Dual 200MP Sensors

The Honor Magic9 Pro Max has arrived for review, and its cameras are the headline. Honor's next flagship is about to make its global debut, and it aims to challenge for the title of best cameraphone, with cinema camera maker ARRI now involved in its imaging.

ARRI, the German maker of the Alexa professional cinema cameras, is partnering with Honor. After a limited trial with the Robot Phone, ARRI is now involved with the Magic9 Pro Max.

What is in the box

The review unit is in Moss Green. In the box are a green-tinted transparent silicone case, a 100W charger and a USB cable. The charger has a USB-A port rather than USB-C, which stands out as a drawback in late 2026.

Compared with its predecessor, described as bland with a glass back, plain circular camera island and plain dark-grey finish, the Magic9 Pro Max has a more dynamic, ARRI movie-camera-inspired design. The green colour is interesting and unique. It uses a single-piece metal chassis with a rear cutout and glass insert for wireless charging. It has two special buttons: a customisable AI Button on the left side and a dedicated camera-control key with touch and press functions, similar to iPhone Pro models.

ARRI tools on a phone

The rear camera hardware is presented as the phone's standout feature, but top hardware needs equally good software. ARRI branding appears on the camera glass.

The ARRI tools included are the ARRI Image Science colour pipeline, ARRI Looks, a dedicated ARRI LogC3 Curve, and ARRI Wide Gamut 3 10-bit colour with full APV 4:2:2 chroma sampling, described as essentially visually lossless. Shooting in 10-bit log gives a deeper colour range, and users can tailor footage or use more than 10,000 LUTs supported by LogC3. A LUT can be added in the camera app while capturing log footage, so the preview approximates the intended result instead of showing a low-contrast, desaturated image.

Early camera samples

The article includes main-camera and telephoto-camera samples from the pair of 200MP imagers, in good and low light, with more samples to come. Honor held a special launch event for the phone in Los Angeles, where photos and videos were also shot.

No price is given in the report, and availability is described only as an imminent global debut. The full review is not yet published and will take a while, with more camera samples promised before it.
