Honor Magic 9 Pro Max Leaks Its Next-Level Power on Geekbench With Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro
Honor’s upcoming Magic 9 Pro Max has appeared on Geekbench, reportedly revealing Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset alongside 16GB of RAM and Android 17. With a huge 8,800mAh battery, dual 200MP cameras and a 6.8-inch LTPO display also tipped, the upcoming flagship is shaping up to be one of Honor’s most ambitious smartphones yet.
Honor’s Next Flagship Just Gave Us a First Look at Its Power
Honor’s upcoming Magic 9 Pro Max is beginning to look less like a routine flagship upgrade and more like a serious statement from the Chinese smartphone maker. The phone has reportedly appeared in Geekbench with Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, giving us an early glimpse at the hardware that could power Honor’s top Magic 9 model. The Geekbench listing identifies the device as model WKL-AN20, with nearly 15GB of detected RAM — effectively the 16GB memory configuration Honor is expected to offer — and Android 17 underneath MagicOS.
The benchmark listing reports 3,448 points in single-core and 9,353 points in multi-core on Geekbench 6. Those numbers should not be treated as final retail performance, because this is still a pre-release device and benchmark results can change substantially with software optimization. Interestingly, the leaked multi-core result represents a major improvement over the previous-generation Magic 8 Pro in the same benchmark, while the single-core result is lower than one earlier Magic 8 Pro listing. That is exactly why one early benchmark should be viewed as a snapshot rather than a final performance verdict.
The Snapdragon Chip Is the Real Headline
The processor is the most interesting part of this leak. The Geekbench entry lists Qualcomm's SM8975 platform, which current reports identify as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, although Qualcomm’s final commercial branding should be confirmed separately. The leaked configuration reportedly includes two high-performance cores reaching around 5.01GHz, three performance cores at about 4.03GHz and three efficiency cores around 3.74GHz, paired with an Adreno 850 GPU.
If those specifications make it into the final phone, Honor will be putting an extremely powerful platform inside a device that is also being positioned heavily around cameras, battery life and AI features. The Magic 9 Pro Max is therefore not simply chasing benchmark numbers. Honor appears to be building a phone designed to attack several flagship categories at once — performance, photography, endurance and premium display technology.
And Then There Is That 8,800mAh Battery
One of the more surprising parts of the Magic 9 Pro Max story is the battery. Current leaks point to an 8,800mAh cell, with reports suggesting 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging. That would give the phone substantially more battery capacity than many conventional flagship smartphones, potentially making long gaming sessions, video recording and heavy AI workloads much less stressful on battery life.
The rest of the rumored hardware follows the same “go big” philosophy. The phone is expected to feature a roughly 6.8-inch 1.5K LTPO display running at 120Hz, along with 3D face recognition and ultrasonic fingerprint authentication. Honor has also been teasing the phone’s design and camera hardware ahead of the launch, so several pieces of the puzzle are now coming together.
Two 200MP Cameras Could Make This a Photography Monster
Honor isn't stopping at processing power. The Magic 9 Pro Max is tipped to feature a triple-camera setup built around two 200MP sensors: a 200MP main camera with a large 1/1.28-inch sensor and a 200MP periscope telephoto using a 1/1.4-inch sensor. A 50MP ultrawide camera is expected to complete the rear system.
That camera hardware becomes even more interesting because Honor has confirmed its collaboration with ARRI for the Magic 9 series. Honor has been highlighting cinema-focused imaging capabilities, while leaked information points toward a larger sensor and telephoto system on the Pro Max. The company has also officially shown the phone’s redesigned horizontal camera module, making it clear that imaging is going to be one of the major selling points of the series.
Honor Is Building a Very Different Magic 9 Lineup
What makes the Magic 9 generation particularly interesting is that Honor appears to be separating its models by purpose rather than simply making one phone bigger than another. Current reports suggest the standard Magic 9 could use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with an 8,000mAh battery, while the Pro Max moves to the newer Gen 6 platform and an 8,800mAh battery. A separate Magic 9 Super Edition is also reportedly coming, with leaks pointing to an extraordinary 11,000mAh battery and active cooling.
That means Honor could end up offering three very different answers to the question of what a flagship phone should be. One model focuses on a more compact design, another pushes camera and performance hardware, while the Super Edition appears designed around extreme endurance. It is an unusual strategy, but it certainly makes the Magic 9 family more interesting.
The Launch Is Almost Here
Honor has officially scheduled its Magic 9 series launch event for September 28 in Beijing, so the wait is now short. The company has already begun revealing pieces of the lineup, including the Pro Max design and camera details, while the latest Geekbench appearance provides another piece of evidence about its internal hardware.
There is still an important distinction between what Honor has confirmed and what comes from leaks. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro identification, benchmark numbers, memory configuration and several detailed specifications are based on reported listings and leaks rather than a complete official specification sheet. Even Geekbench performance can change before a phone reaches consumers.
But if the current reports are even close to accurate, the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max could be one of the most aggressive Android flagships of late 2026. A next-generation Snapdragon chip, 16GB-class memory, dual 200MP cameras, a huge 8,800mAh battery and fast wired and wireless charging is a serious combination. And with the official launch just days away, we won't have to wait long to find out how much of the leak turns into reality.
