Taiwan indicts five over alleged China-linked plot against Xi-mocking comedian

Prosecutors cite suspected transnational repression

Taiwanese prosecutors say five people planned to injure comedian Huang Yi-hao after his shows mocked China’s leadership, including Xi Jinping. Investigators allege that a Chinese person paid for a staged car crash intended to break Huang’s arms and legs, but the comedian suffered only minor injuries. Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council said people carrying out cross-border repression would be pursued. The accused identities were not released.
