AstraZeneca and Oracle explore AI for clinical-trial matching and safety
AstraZeneca and Oracle are collaborating to test AI and real-world data for clinical-trial matching, earlier diagnosis and safety monitoring. The companies will combine AstraZeneca’s drug-development expertise with Oracle’s data, cloud and healthcare capabilities.
Initial areas include oncology, cardiovascular, respiratory, immunology and rare diseases. The first programme supports hypertension care and research in Abu Dhabi with M42, identifying patients with uncontrolled hypertension and improving trial recruitment.
The agreement is non-binding and has no disclosed financial terms. AstraZeneca said projects will use deidentified data under privacy and ethical safeguards; it will not receive patient-identifiable information. Each deployment remains dependent on health-system governance, data quality and regulatory approval.
The companies frame the work as workflow support rather than a replacement for clinicians or trial investigators. Its value will ultimately be measured by recruitment speed, safety signal quality and whether the tools improve outcomes without compromising consent or confidentiality.
