South Korea’s Early-October Exports Surge on Record Chip Sales
South Korea’s exports rose 105.4% year on year during October 1–20, according to preliminary customs data reported by Reuters on October 21. Semiconductor exports jumped 222.5% and accounted for 44.7% of total exports.
Record daily average covers all exports
On a working-day average basis, total exports rose 65.9% to a record $4.74 billion. That record is an all-exports measure, not a semiconductor-only figure.
The working-day calculation helps separate trade momentum from the number of business days in the reporting window. The chip figure, meanwhile, shows how heavily the latest expansion depends on one major industry.
Partial-month data, not October’s final result
The figures cover only the first 20 days of October. They show exceptionally strong early momentum led by chips but do not establish the full-month outcome. A complete monthly release is needed to assess whether that pace continued.
