Orange Says France Mobile Services Restored After Nationwide Outage

Orange said its mobile services in France were restored on October 21 after an incident caused major disruption across the country. In a later public update marked 21:30, the operator said calls, SMS and mobile services were operational again for all residential and business customers.

Technical teams continued monitoring network stability after the restoration announcement.

Earlier disruption drew widespread reports

Reuters reported the outage after Orange confirmed the incident in a statement. The company did not identify a cause in that initial update. Downdetector showed tens of thousands of reports about Orange mobile-service problems that morning.

Those reports reflect users reporting difficulties, rather than a direct measurement of the network or a verified count of affected customers. Orange’s initial statement established the broad disruption but did not specify how many subscribers had lost service.

Restoration changes the service picture

During the disruption, Orange advised affected users to connect to a secure Wi-Fi network to access internet-based messaging and video-conferencing applications. Its later restoration statement supersedes the earlier description of an ongoing nationwide service problem.

The update did not explain the technical cause. The operator’s statement that core services were back also came with continued monitoring, rather than a detailed public account of the failure and remedial work.
