MiniMax launches M3.1 Flash with claimed speed and cost gains
Chinese AI startup MiniMax launched M3.1 Flash on October 19. The company says it improves agentic tasks, programming, computer use and cybersecurity, with online inference nearly three times faster and usage costs 70% lower than its predecessor.
MiniMax reports benchmark gains in workflow automation, coding and computer use. The model is available through its API, M Plan and MiniMax Code; weights are due later.
The release targets multi-step enterprise work at a predictable cost. MiniMax lists $0.15 per million input tokens and $0.60 per million output tokens.
These figures are vendor claims pending independent testing, but the launch adds another Chinese contender focused on agentic workloads.
MiniMax’s release also illustrates how model makers compete on economics as well as benchmark scores. Lower inference costs matter when agents make many tool calls during a single workflow.
