Truckers’ protest halts Italy’s buffalo mozzarella production
Blockades interrupt milk deliveries
Truck-driver protests in southern Italy over fuel prices and the cost of living have halted production of buffalo mozzarella, with estimated losses of €3 million in a day, the Associated Press reported on October 22.
The blockades prevented milk deliveries and also threatened vegetables and other perishable goods. The disruption illustrates how quickly a transport dispute can spread through food supply chains that depend on frequent deliveries and limited storage time.
