iPhone Duo Display Looks Creaseless, but a Soft Hinge Area Raises Questions
Apple’s first foldable iPhone may have a remarkably smooth-looking inner screen, but a reported hands-on observation has drawn attention to what happens beneath that surface. GSMArena says a video originally posted by Weibo user Kang and shared by Ice Universe shows the display strip above the hinge giving way when pressed with a finger.
That is an observation from a reported test, not an InnoparkIT hands-on review or a controlled durability assessment. According to the report, the pressed area can develop visible wrinkles, then return to a smooth appearance after the finger moves away. Kang reportedly tested multiple iPhone Duo units and said they behaved similarly, although the original video and testing conditions do not establish how the phones would perform over months or years.
Why the hinge area matters
Apple’s official product page describes a 7.6-inch inner display with more than 10 ultrathin layers, a custom nano-texture finish and optically clear adhesives intended to let display layers glide as the phone folds. Apple says that construction minimizes stress and crease visibility. It does not confirm the specific glass design suggested in the report.
Ice Universe speculated that the behavior could relate to Corning’s variable-thickness glass concept: thinner glass at the hinge for bending and thicker glass elsewhere. Corning has described that approach, but neither Apple nor the cited report confirms that iPhone Duo uses it. For now, the soft spot is best treated as a detail worth monitoring, not proof of a design failure or a universal durability problem.
