A tester says Apple Pencil support works in the iOS 27.2 release candidate. Apple confirms USB-C Pencil compatibility is coming later this year.
iPhone Duo Apple Pencil Support Reportedly Working in iOS 27.2 Release Candidate
Apple Pencil support may reach the iPhone Duo sooner than its broad “later this year” promise suggested. Max Weinbach says the feature already works in the iOS 27.2 release candidate, according to an October 21 post cited by GSMArena.
Apple’s own iPhone Duo product page confirms that the phone will work with Apple Pencil (USB-C), but still labels the feature as coming later this year. That separates the official compatibility commitment from the newly reported software timing.
A working test build is not the public rollout
Weinbach says the release candidate arrived on Monday and that Pencil support works. GSMArena expects iOS 27.2 around October 26, shortly after the Duo’s launch-day availability.
That date is an expectation in the report, not a release date independently confirmed on Apple’s product page. Owners should check the actual public software update rather than assume a release-candidate feature has already reached every device.
The USB-C Pencil is the important distinction
The compatibility promise specifically names Apple Pencil (USB-C). GSMArena reports that the Duo does not support the Pencil Pro or older Pencil models, and lists the USB-C version at $79 in Apple’s US store.
A shared product name does not make every Pencil interchangeable. Before buying one, Duo owners should check the exact model and the latest official compatibility information. The US accessory price is not a local price for India, China or Bangladesh.
Reachability is a separate reported addition
GSMArena also reports that Apple plans a Duo-specific Reachability feature later this year, bringing the left or right edge of the interface closer for one-handed use. No particular iOS version is identified for that addition.
It should therefore not be bundled into the iOS 27.2 claim as though both features have the same confirmed arrival date. For now, Pencil support has a tester’s release-candidate report; the revised Reachability feature has a less precise timeline.
