Germany says Invest in Germany summit draws more than €225 billion in pledges
More than €225 billion in company investment pledges were announced around Germany’s Invest in Germany Summit, according to the economy ministry cited by Reuters. Chancellor Friedrich Merz used the October 20 Berlin event to pitch Germany as a base for defence, semiconductors and artificial intelligence.
Merz promised less red tape, faster approvals and upgraded infrastructure as high costs and a weak industrial recovery weigh on Germany’s traditional base. He also pointed to Made for Germany, under which German companies have pledged more than €800 billion through 2028.
The headline total is a commitment figure, not money already spent. Its significance depends on whether approvals, power, computing capacity and market access arrive quickly enough to turn announcements into productive investment. Germany says it aims to quadruple AI computing capacity by 2030.
