Coolpad Cool X Wide Debuts With a 16:10 Display and 50MP Camera

Coolpad has announced the Cool X Wide, a smartphone that swaps the familiar tall, narrow screen for a broader 16:10 display. China pre-orders opened on October 20, although the company has not yet confirmed a price or a wider release.

The phone combines a 6.38-inch display with a MediaTek Helio G99 processor and a 50MP main camera. Its appeal is less about flagship specifications than an unusual shape that gives buyers another option beyond conventional slab phones.

A wider screen, without a folding hinge

The Cool X Wide uses a TFT LCD with HD resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. At 150.3 x 94.5 x 8.95mm, it is notably broader than most smartphones: GizmoChina puts the typical handset’s width at roughly 70mm to 80mm.

That extra width could give photos, documents and app layouts more room across the screen, though the broad body may be less comfortable for one-handed use. Whether individual apps make good use of the shape will matter as much as the display’s proportions. White, black and red versions are listed.

Helio G99 hardware and expandable storage

Coolpad pairs the Helio G99 with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. Buyers have three configurations to choose from: 8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage, 8GB with 256GB, or 12GB with 256GB. A TF/microSD card slot supports storage expansion, with GizmoChina reporting support for cards up to 256GB.

The rear camera specifications list a 50MP main camera and a macro sensor. Details of the selfie camera remain unconfirmed. A 4,600mAh battery and dual-SIM support round out the core hardware, while GSMArena reports that the phone runs Android 16 out of the box.

Price and international release remain open questions

The Cool X Wide is listed for pre-order through JD.com in China, according to GSMArena. Confirmed pricing and a delivery date were not available in the launch reports reviewed. Those reports also do not establish release plans for India, the US or Bangladesh.

For now, the distinctive display is the clearest reason to watch the phone. Its eventual price, app compatibility and everyday handling will determine whether the wider design offers a practical alternative to the usual smartphone shape.
