Bose Acquires Skullcandy, Keeping the Brand and Its Utah Base

Bose has acquired Skullcandy, taking an existing audio-technology partnership into full ownership. The companies announced the deal on October 21, with GSMArena covering it on October 22.

Skullcandy will remain a separate brand within Bose’s Premium Consumer Audio business and continue to be based in Park City, Utah. The announcement does not describe a rebranding of Skullcandy products as Bose.

A deal built on an existing partnership

The companies had already worked together for several years, bringing licensed Sound by Bose technology to Skullcandy headphones and earbuds. Bose says that experience provided a foundation for deeper collaboration.

Under the new arrangement, Bose plans to give Skullcandy greater access to technology, resources, distribution and commercial relationships while preserving the identity that has connected the brand with boardsports, music, gaming and fitness audiences.

Why keeping the brands separate matters

The acquisition gives Bose a way to reach listeners through a different product identity rather than stretching every new design across the Bose name. Skullcandy’s community links and design approach are presented as assets to retain, not features to erase.

That is the companies’ stated strategy. It is not yet evidence of a specific new headphone, a promised improvement to an existing model or a change in retail pricing.

The purchase price is not public

Bose bought Skullcandy from a fund managed by Mill Road Capital Management. The release says financial and other transaction terms will remain confidential, so no reliable purchase-price figure can be drawn from the announcement.

For customers, the immediate confirmed change is ownership. Future products, firmware plans and any changes to service arrangements will need their own announcements; the deal alone does not establish them.
