Anthropic reports more than $80 billion first-half loss, WSJ says
Anthropic reported a net loss of more than $80 billion in the first half of 2026, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a draft IPO prospectus. Reuters said it could not immediately verify the report and Anthropic did not respond to a request for comment.
The reported loss included $72 billion in accounting charges tied to changes in the value of financial instruments issued to raise money. Revenue reportedly rose to $16.3 billion in the six months ended June 30 from $1.1 billion a year earlier, while infrastructure spending nearly quadrupled to almost $9 billion.
The Journal also reported that Anthropic could spend as much as $750 billion in coming years to secure computing capacity. That figure is a reported potential commitment, not confirmed spending.
The disclosure highlights the accounting and infrastructure costs behind the AI race as investors assess Anthropic’s planned IPO. Reuters previously reported a $42 billion net loss for 2025 from the company’s IPO prospectus.
