AI-linked chip stocks rebound after steepest weekly selloff in months
AI-linked stocks bounced on Monday after the previous week’s steep selloff, with lower government-bond yields and softer crude prices helping risk appetite. CoreWeave rose 2.4% after Goldman Sachs upgraded the neocloud company to buy, while its bonds also recovered from distressed levels after a $50 billion debt burden had shaken confidence in AI infrastructure financing.
The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index was up 2.4% and was on course to end an eight-session losing streak, after losing more than 11% the prior week and about $2 trillion in market value over that run. Intel gained 4.5% after a J.P. Morgan upgrade; Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom also advanced after sharp declines.
Reuters described the move as a possible bounce, not proof that the financing concerns had disappeared. Investors still face questions about high valuations, interest rates, debt and whether earnings growth can justify continued AI spending. Upcoming results from major technology companies and hyperscalers were identified as the next test for the trade.
