Ahold Delhaize reports cyber incident as Albert Heijn delivery outage continues

Ahold Delhaize reported a cybersecurity incident after detecting suspicious activity and said it had taken systems offline as a precaution. The retailer described the activity as malicious actions by others but did not identify an actor.

Albert Heijn, the Netherlands’ largest supermarket chain, said online deliveries would remain unavailable until Thursday at the earliest, extending the disruption to at least 11 days. Several US chain websites also remained offline.

Ahold said it had found no evidence that customer data was stolen. Stores stayed open, although distribution problems affected supplies.

Dutch authorities said there was no reason to link the Dutch incident directly to a separate French supermarket cyberattack.

The outage shows how a security response can spread beyond websites: delivery scheduling, distribution and store replenishment all depend on interconnected retail systems.
