Anthropic IPO Emerges as AI Market's Main Test After Rivals Delay Listings

Anthropic is pressing ahead with a possible mid-November initial public offering while AI infrastructure companies delay or shelve listings. The planned deal would test whether investor enthusiasm for a leading AI lab can overcome rising rates, volatile AI shares and doubts about the sector's capital demands.

Anthropic IPO Emerges as AI Market's Main Test After Rivals Delay Listings

Anthropic is pressing ahead with plans for an initial public offering, potentially making the artificial-intelligence company the only major technology IPO to move forward in a once-busy autumn calendar. Reuters reported that Anthropic could make its prospectus public as early as late October and market shares during the week of Nov. 9, although people familiar with the matter stressed that the plan and dates may change.

Why this deal matters

The offering would test whether Anthropic's position at the center of the AI industry can overcome a market that has become less forgiving. Some investors have discussed a possible valuation as high as $1.5 trillion, but AI operators' shares and bonds have sold off as interest rates rise and questions grow about the return on data-center spending.

Anthropic declined to comment. The reported timetable is therefore not a filed offering date or a confirmed valuation. It represents a plan described by people familiar with the process.

Competitors step back

Reuters reported that data-center operator Switch and AI infrastructure provider Nscale pushed their listing plans later, while SoftBank-backed SB Energy also postponed its offering. South Korean AI-chip startup Elice shelved its listing plan, and other offerings backed by large investors were paused or withdrawn. The companies cited in the report have not all publicly confirmed final timetables.

The hesitation reflects more than daily share-price volatility. Investors are scrutinizing the enormous capital required to build computing infrastructure and whether future demand will support the debt and equipment commitments. Oura's recent IPO also drew limited participation from long-only investors, raising concerns about the depth of institutional demand.

A concentrated test of demand

If Anthropic proceeds, it will compete for investor attention while offering one of the few direct public-market routes into frontier AI. Its reception could influence whether other issuers return quickly or continue waiting for more stable financing conditions.
